Proof Stake leverages a consensus mechanism where participants, termed validators, stake a portion of their cryptocurrency holdings to participate in block creation and network validation. This algorithmic process selects validators based on the quantity and duration of their staked assets, incentivizing honest behavior through rewards and disincentivizing malicious actions via penalties. The selection process often incorporates randomization elements alongside stake size, mitigating the potential for concentrated control and promoting a more decentralized network governance structure.
