Verkle Trees

Architecture

Verkle Trees are a proposed cryptographic data structure, a variant of Merkle trees, designed to improve the efficiency of state proofs in blockchains, particularly for Ethereum. Unlike Merkle Patricia Trees which use SHA256 hashing, Verkle Trees utilize polynomial commitments, allowing for significantly smaller proof sizes. This architecture enables a more compact representation of the blockchain state, making verification faster and less resource-intensive. It represents a significant advancement in cryptographic accumulator design.
