Slashing Contagion

Risk

Slashing contagion represents a systemic risk in Proof-of-Stake networks where a slashing event on one validator triggers a cascade of negative consequences across other interconnected entities. This risk is particularly pronounced in delegated staking models where multiple users stake through a single validator or in liquid staking protocols where derivatives link various validators. A single failure event can rapidly spread through shared infrastructure or interconnected financial products. The potential for contagion increases with the concentration of staked assets in a few large pools.
