Restaking Protocols

Architecture

Restaking protocols represent a novel layer within the Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism, enabling the reuse of staked assets—typically ETH—to secure multiple applications simultaneously. This architectural innovation expands the capital efficiency of staked tokens, moving beyond solely securing a single blockchain and into a modular security paradigm. Consequently, protocols leverage these restaked assets to provide security for diverse applications like data availability layers or rollups, generating additional yield for stakers through incentivized participation. The design inherently introduces a shared security model, where the economic penalties for malicious behavior are aggregated across multiple secured services, potentially enhancing overall network resilience.
