Raiden Network

Architecture

The Raiden Network functions as a state channel layer atop the Ethereum blockchain, designed to facilitate off-chain micropayments and token transfers. Its core innovation lies in reducing on-chain congestion by enabling numerous transactions to occur within a channel, only settling the net result on the main chain. This layered approach significantly lowers transaction fees and increases throughput, addressing scalability limitations inherent in first-generation blockchain systems. Channel establishment requires an initial on-chain transaction, defining the parameters and collateral for subsequent off-chain interactions, and the network’s routing mechanism allows for payments across multiple interconnected channels, even without a direct channel between sender and receiver.
