Optimistic Proof, within cryptocurrency and derivatives, represents a fraud-proof system predicated on the assumption that most participants will act honestly; it’s a core component of Optimistic Rollups, a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum. This approach contrasts with ZK-Rollups, which utilize zero-knowledge proofs, by initially assuming transactions are valid and only requiring proofs when challenged. The efficiency gains stem from minimizing computational overhead during transaction processing, deferring intensive verification to dispute resolution phases. Consequently, the algorithm relies on economic incentives and a challenge period where participants can submit fraud proofs, reverting invalid state changes.
