On-Chain RFR

Onchain

An On-Chain Reference Rate (RFR) represents a dynamically derived interest rate protocolically embedded within a blockchain, specifically designed to facilitate decentralized lending, borrowing, and derivative instruments. Unlike traditional finance RFRs reliant on interbank lending markets, an On-Chain RFR leverages on-chain data, such as borrowing rates across various lending protocols, to construct a transparent and verifiable benchmark. This approach aims to mitigate the opacity and potential manipulation inherent in off-chain rate setting processes, fostering greater trust and efficiency within decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystems. The rate’s calculation often incorporates a weighted average of prevailing lending rates, adjusted for factors like collateralization ratios and protocol-specific incentives.
