Hybrid Decentralized Exchange

Architecture

A Hybrid Decentralized Exchange (HDEX) represents a novel market structure integrating on-chain settlement with off-chain order matching, aiming to reconcile the security of decentralized finance with the scalability of centralized systems. This design typically employs layer-2 solutions or sidechains to facilitate faster and cheaper transactions than those directly on a primary blockchain, while retaining custody through smart contracts. Consequently, HDEXs often utilize a combination of automated market makers (AMMs) and order book functionalities, offering traders diverse execution options and potentially improved price discovery. The resultant architecture seeks to mitigate front-running and manipulation inherent in some fully on-chain exchanges, while addressing the trust assumptions associated with centralized intermediaries.
