Consensus finality represents the point at which a transaction in a distributed ledger becomes immutable and cannot be reverted or altered by the network participants. This state is achieved when the majority of validators confirm the block, ensuring that the ledger state is consistent across all nodes. In crypto derivatives, this mechanism is fundamental because it provides the necessary certainty for automated smart contract execution and settlement. Without this assurance, market participants would face unacceptable counterparty risk during the clearing of options and futures.
