Protocol Hardcoding

Mechanism

Protocol Hardcoding refers to the embedding of specific rules, parameters, and economic incentives directly into the immutable code of a blockchain protocol. This mechanism ensures that fundamental aspects, such as maximum token supply, block reward schedules, or consensus algorithms, are fixed and resistant to arbitrary alteration without a formal, often difficult, governance process. It provides a high degree of predictability and security, as these rules are enforced by the network itself. This forms the bedrock of decentralization.
