PoS Systems

Algorithm

Proof-of-Stake (PoS) represents a class of consensus mechanisms utilized in blockchain networks, differing fundamentally from Proof-of-Work by selecting validators based on the quantity of cryptocurrency they hold and are willing to ‘stake’ as collateral. This staking process incentivizes honest behavior, as malicious actions result in the forfeiture of the staked assets, thereby securing the network without the energy-intensive computations characteristic of PoW systems. Consequently, PoS algorithms often exhibit enhanced scalability and reduced energy consumption, attributes increasingly vital for sustainable blockchain infrastructure and complex derivative applications. The selection process frequently incorporates elements of randomization and coin age to mitigate the influence of the largest stakeholders and promote network decentralization, impacting the efficiency of on-chain governance.
