Off-Chain Negotiation

Context

Off-Chain Negotiation, within cryptocurrency, options trading, and financial derivatives, refers to discussions and agreements regarding trade terms, pricing, or other conditions that occur outside of a blockchain or centralized exchange’s order book. These negotiations typically involve direct communication between counterparties, bypassing the public, immutable record of on-chain transactions. The practice is increasingly relevant as decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols mature and complex derivative instruments gain traction, demanding more flexible and customized agreements than standard smart contracts can readily accommodate. Consequently, it represents a shift towards a more bilateral, relationship-driven approach within these traditionally order-driven markets.
