Layered Order Book Structure

Architecture

A layered order book structure, prevalent in cryptocurrency exchanges and increasingly adopted in options trading platforms, represents a departure from traditional, monolithic order books. It organizes liquidity across multiple price levels, often termed “layers,” to enhance market depth and improve order execution efficiency. This design facilitates the aggregation of diverse order types, including limit orders, market orders, and potentially more complex derivatives contracts, within a hierarchical framework. Consequently, it allows for a more granular view of available liquidity and can mitigate slippage, particularly crucial in volatile crypto markets where rapid price movements are common.
