Layer Zero

Architecture

Layer Zero represents a cross-chain interoperability protocol designed to facilitate seamless communication and asset transfer between disparate blockchain networks. Its core innovation lies in utilizing a decentralized network of “oracles,” termed “outposts,” which act as bridges, relaying messages and assets without requiring trust in a single intermediary. This architecture enables the creation of application-specific chains, often referred to as “rollups,” that inherit security from a base layer while benefiting from customized functionality and improved scalability. Consequently, developers can build applications that span multiple blockchains, unlocking new possibilities for decentralized finance (DeFi) and other Web3 use cases.
