Exercise and Assignment

Exercise

Exercise refers to the act by an options holder of invoking their right to buy or sell the underlying asset at the strike price. For a call option, exercising means buying the asset; for a put option, it means selling. This action typically occurs when the option is in-the-money at or before expiration, or strategically for specific market exposures. Understanding the mechanics of exercise is fundamental for options traders.
