DeFi Contagion Risk

Mechanism

DeFi contagion risk denotes the structural vulnerability wherein localized financial distress within a specific decentralized protocol propagates through interconnected liquidity pools and collateralized debt positions. This phenomenon arises because complex financial instruments in the cryptocurrency ecosystem frequently utilize identical underlying assets for leverage and yield generation. When a failure occurs at one node, the resultant liquidation cascade forces asset offloading, which depresses collateral values across disparate platforms simultaneously.
