On-Chain Wallet Signature

An On-chain Wallet Signature is a cryptographic process where a custodian proves ownership of a specific blockchain address by signing a message with the private key associated with that address. This proves that the entity controls the assets at that address without needing to move them.

It is a critical component of proof of reserves because it links the digital assets to the institution being audited. Without this signature, a firm could simply point to a random whale wallet and claim it as their own.

The signature provides undeniable proof that the custodian has access to the funds at that specific moment. This is a standard practice for establishing solvency in the cryptocurrency market.

It allows for the independent verification of asset holdings by anyone with access to the blockchain.
