Network Decentralization Index

The Network Decentralization Index is a composite metric used to measure how widely distributed the voting power and operational control are across a blockchain network. A high index indicates that stake and validator power are spread across many independent entities, reducing the risk of collusion or censorship.

Conversely, a low index suggests that a small group of validators or stakeholders controls the network, increasing systemic risk. This index is used by researchers, regulators, and market participants to evaluate the censorship resistance and security of a protocol.

Decentralization is not just about the number of nodes, but the diversity of their geography, jurisdiction, and technical stack. A healthy index is a sign of a robust, community-governed network that is resistant to single points of failure.

It is a key indicator for assessing the long-term viability and security of a digital asset.
