Governance Based Slashing

Governance based slashing is a mechanism where the community of token holders votes to decide whether a validator should be slashed for behavior that might not be explicitly defined by the protocol code. This allows for human intervention in cases of unforeseen attacks or complex edge cases that automated rules cannot handle.

While this provides flexibility, it also introduces the risk of political manipulation, where the majority might slash a minority for competitive or ideological reasons. Many protocols prefer automated, rule-based slashing to maintain objective fairness and prevent governance capture.

However, in the event of a catastrophic exploit, governance based slashing acts as a last resort to protect the network's treasury and integrity, reflecting the intersection of technology and social consensus.
