Digital Option
A digital option is essentially synonymous with an all-or-nothing option, characterized by a binary outcome based on the underlying asset price at a specific expiration time. In the context of crypto derivatives, digital options allow traders to speculate on whether an asset will finish above or below a certain strike price.
When the option is in the money, the holder receives a fixed payout regardless of how far the price moved beyond the strike. This contrasts with vanilla options, where the profit increases as the asset moves further into the money.
Digital options are frequently used to hedge against volatility or to profit from directional market movements without needing to predict the exact magnitude of the move. Because the payoff is fixed, the risk profile is well-defined from the start, making it easier for retail traders to manage potential losses.
These instruments are highly sensitive to time decay and the proximity of the asset price to the strike price as expiration approaches.
