Deterministic Settlement

Deterministic settlement is a property of a blockchain where a transaction is final and immutable as soon as it is included in a block and confirmed by the consensus mechanism. Unlike probabilistic settlement, which requires waiting for multiple confirmations, deterministic settlement provides immediate certainty.

This is particularly valuable for financial derivatives and automated market makers, where the speed of execution and the reliability of the state are critical. Systems that achieve deterministic settlement often use BFT-based consensus protocols.

This approach reduces the complexity for developers building on top of the blockchain, as they do not need to account for potential reorgs in their application logic.
