Trailing Stop Losses

Application

Trailing stop losses, within cryptocurrency, options, and derivatives markets, represent a dynamic risk management technique adjusting a stop-loss order as the market price evolves favorably. Their primary function is to protect unrealized gains while allowing a security to continue appreciating, differing from fixed stop-loss orders that remain static regardless of price movement. Implementation involves defining a trailing amount, either as a percentage or a fixed monetary value, below the highest achieved price; the stop-loss price then automatically adjusts upwards with each new high.
