Smart Contract Denial of Service

Mechanism

Smart contract denial of service occurs when an attacker triggers state changes that exhaust the computational resources or gas limits of a blockchain protocol, effectively halting the execution of specific functions. In the context of derivatives trading, this often manifests as a targeted obstruction of order matching or margin maintenance logic within a decentralized exchange. By saturating the block space or engineering complex transaction inputs, malicious actors prevent legitimate participants from adjusting their hedge positions or closing expiring options contracts.
