Sharding technology, within distributed ledger systems, represents a database partitioning technique designed to enhance scalability and transaction throughput. It functions by dividing the blockchain network into smaller, manageable segments known as shards, each processing transactions and maintaining its own subset of the blockchain state. This parallel processing capability directly addresses the limitations of traditional blockchain architectures, where every node must validate every transaction, creating a bottleneck as network demand increases. Consequently, sharding allows for a more efficient allocation of computational resources and a reduction in latency, particularly relevant for high-frequency trading applications in cryptocurrency derivatives.
