Scarcity and Dilution

Scarcity

Scarcity, in the context of cryptocurrency and financial derivatives, refers to the finite or limited supply of an asset, which often underpins its perceived value. For many cryptocurrencies, a predetermined maximum supply or a deflationary issuance schedule creates artificial scarcity. This economic principle suggests that as demand increases against a fixed or decreasing supply, the asset’s value tends to appreciate. Scarcity is a fundamental driver of asset valuation in both traditional and digital markets. It forms a core tenet of tokenomics.
