Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) leverages the principles of quantum mechanics to establish a secure cryptographic key between two parties. Unlike classical cryptography, which relies on computational complexity, QKD’s security stems from the laws of physics, specifically the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. Any attempt to intercept or eavesdrop on the key exchange inevitably disturbs the quantum state, alerting the legitimate parties to the intrusion. This fundamentally different approach offers a potential pathway to unbreakable encryption, particularly relevant as computational power increases and threatens existing cryptographic methods.
