Miner Extractable Value

Definition

Miner Extractable Value (MEV) is the profit that block producers can realize by reordering, including, or censoring transactions within a block, exploiting the discretionary power they possess over transaction sequencing. This value extraction occurs when a block producer identifies an opportunity to profit from a specific transaction order, such as a large trade that creates a temporary price discrepancy. MEV represents a significant, non-standard source of income in blockchain ecosystems.
