Long Duration Options

Definition

Long duration options, often referred to as LEAPS (Long-term Equity AnticiPation Securities), are options contracts with expiration dates extending significantly into the future, typically one year or more. These instruments provide investors with a longer time horizon to realize their directional or volatility thesis on an underlying asset. They offer reduced sensitivity to short-term price fluctuations compared to shorter-dated options. The extended maturity period allows for more gradual time decay.
