Layer-2 State Channels

Architecture

Layer-2 state channels represent a pivotal scaling solution for blockchains, enabling off-chain transaction processing and subsequent on-chain settlement, fundamentally altering transaction throughput. These channels establish a bidirectional payment hub between participants, reducing reliance on the main chain for every transaction and minimizing associated fees. The core principle involves locking a predetermined amount of funds into a multi-signature contract, facilitating numerous transactions within the channel without immediate blockchain confirmation, and ultimately broadcasting a final state reflecting the net changes. This approach is particularly relevant for high-frequency trading scenarios and micropayments where on-chain costs would be prohibitive, offering a distinct advantage in derivative settlement.
