Layer 2 finality refers to the point at which a transaction processed on a secondary scaling solution becomes immutable and permanently recorded on the host blockchain. This state occurs when the rollup operator successfully anchors the batch state root to the mainnet, rendering the transition irreversible under the consensus rules of the base layer. Analysts monitor this mechanism to determine the temporal lag between initial execution and the realization of definitive security guarantees.
