Hybrid Limit Order Book

Architecture

A hybrid limit order book (HLOB) represents a convergence of traditional limit order book (LOB) mechanics with aspects of order matching prevalent in centralized exchanges, frequently observed within cryptocurrency derivatives and options trading environments. It typically combines the price discovery and order prioritization of a LOB with the speed and efficiency of a centralized matching engine, often incorporating features like batch auctions or maker-taker fee structures. This design aims to enhance liquidity and reduce slippage, particularly crucial for complex derivatives where order sizes can be substantial and market depth variable. Consequently, HLOBs are increasingly adopted to facilitate efficient trading of perpetual futures, options, and other complex financial instruments within decentralized and centralized platforms.
