Gamma-Hedged

Application

Gamma-hedged strategies in cryptocurrency derivatives represent a dynamic risk management technique employed to neutralize directional exposure arising from option positions, particularly prevalent with the increasing sophistication of perpetual swaps and options markets. This involves continuously adjusting an underlying asset position—typically the cryptocurrency itself—to offset the delta of an options portfolio, aiming for delta neutrality. Effective implementation requires frequent rebalancing due to the non-linear nature of gamma, the rate of change of delta, and is computationally intensive, often facilitated by automated trading systems. The primary objective is to profit from time decay (theta) and volatility changes, rather than predicting the direction of the underlying asset’s price.
