Architecture

Fantom Network represents a directed acyclic graph (DAG) based smart contract platform, diverging from traditional blockchain structures to achieve enhanced scalability and transaction speeds. Its Lachesis consensus mechanism utilizes asynchronous Byzantine Fault Tolerance (aBFT) to validate transactions, enabling near-instant finality without reliance on block creation or mining. This architectural design facilitates parallel processing of transactions, mitigating congestion and reducing gas fees, critical for high-frequency trading applications and complex derivative settlements. The network’s modularity allows for the deployment of independent virtual machines, optimizing execution environments for specific financial instruments and protocols.
