EIP-4844 Blob Transactions

Transaction

EIP-4844 introduces blob transactions, a novel mechanism designed to accommodate larger data payloads within Ethereum’s transaction structure, primarily addressing the escalating costs associated with Layer-2 scaling solutions. These transactions segregate a portion of the transaction data, termed the “blob,” which is not included in the base layer’s calldata but is still verifiable. This separation allows for significantly reduced base layer costs while maintaining data availability and integrity, crucial for rollups and other scaling technologies. Consequently, the overall transaction fee structure is altered, impacting gas costs and potentially influencing trading strategies involving complex smart contracts or large data transfers.
