Cross-Chain Atomic Swap

Mechanism

A cross-chain atomic swap enables the direct exchange of cryptocurrencies between different blockchain networks without requiring a trusted third party. This process relies on cryptographic protocols, typically using Hash Time-Locked Contracts (HTLCs), to ensure that either both parties receive their intended assets or neither does. The transaction is “atomic” because it completes entirely or reverts, preventing partial fulfillment. This eliminates counterparty risk inherent in centralized exchanges. It facilitates seamless asset transfer across disparate ecosystems.
