Chain Fragmentation

Chain

The concept of chain fragmentation, within cryptocurrency and derivatives markets, refers to the dispersion of liquidity and order flow across multiple exchanges or trading venues for a given underlying asset. This phenomenon arises from the increasing complexity of these markets, with numerous decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and centralized platforms (CEXs) offering similar instruments. Consequently, a single order may be executed across several venues, diminishing the impact of any individual trade and complicating market microstructure analysis.
