VWAP Performance Metrics

VWAP, or Volume-Weighted Average Price, is a trading benchmark that calculates the average price of an asset weighted by the total volume traded over a period. It is considered one of the most accurate measures of intraday fair value.

Performance metrics based on VWAP compare the actual execution price of an order to this benchmark. If the execution price is better than the VWAP, the algorithm is considered to have performed well.

These metrics are used by institutions to evaluate the efficiency of their execution desks and algorithmic strategies. VWAP is particularly useful for large orders that need to be spread out over time, as it aligns the trade with the actual market activity.

It provides a standard for judging whether an order was executed at a fair price relative to the market's collective action. It is a fundamental tool for performance reporting and accountability.
