Voting Quorum

A voting quorum is the minimum number of participants or the minimum percentage of total voting power required to be present or cast for a decision to be considered valid in a governance process. In decentralized protocols, this ensures that decisions are not made by a small, unrepresentative minority.

Quorum requirements protect the protocol from malicious actors or capture by a small group of token holders. If a vote fails to reach the required quorum, the proposal is typically rejected regardless of the vote outcome.

Setting an appropriate quorum is a delicate balance between ensuring broad consensus and maintaining the ability to make timely decisions.
