Volume footprint analysis is a visual technique that displays the volume traded at each specific price level within a single bar or candle. By breaking down the total volume of a candle into buy-side and sell-side transactions, it reveals the internal battle between buyers and sellers at every price point.

This allows traders to see if a price move was supported by aggressive buying or if it was merely a lack of selling pressure. It is particularly effective for identifying exhaustion, where volume spikes at a price extreme without further movement, suggesting a potential reversal.

In cryptocurrency trading, this is often used to spot "trapped" traders who bought at the high or sold at the low. It provides a granular view of the market that standard candlestick charts cannot offer.
