Vault Governance Models
Vault governance models are the frameworks by which a community of token holders manages the parameters and operations of a smart contract vault. These models allow participants to vote on key decisions such as which assets can be used as collateral, what the liquidation thresholds should be, and how interest rates are calculated.
This decentralization of power is intended to align the interests of the protocol with its users. Governance models can vary from simple majority voting to complex reputation-based or stake-weighted systems.
The challenge is to prevent governance attacks where malicious actors take control of the voting process to drain the vault or change parameters to their advantage. Effective governance models include timelocks, which delay the implementation of changes, giving the community time to react.
They also involve active community participation and transparent communication. A well-designed governance model is crucial for the long-term sustainability and adaptability of a decentralized protocol.
