Under-Collateralized

An account is under-collateralized when its collateral value is insufficient to secure the amount borrowed or the risk of its open positions. This is a dangerous state that requires immediate action.

The broker will typically force the investor to deposit more funds or will liquidate positions to bring the account back to a properly collateralized status.
