This removes the reliance on legal systems or trusted third parties, reducing counterparty risk and transaction costs. Trustless enforcement is the core value proposition of decentralized finance, allowing for global, permissionless participation.

While it provides high efficiency, it also places the burden of security entirely on the code itself. If the code is flawed, the enforcement will be flawed, which is why rigorous testing is essential.
