## Transaction Ordering Fairness

Transaction ordering fairness is a design goal for blockchain protocols to ensure that transactions are sequenced in a way that is equitable and not exploitable by validators or searchers. In a fair system, transactions would be ordered based on the time they were received or by another neutral criterion.

However, achieving this in a decentralized environment is notoriously difficult because of the ability of validators to reorder transactions for profit. Many proposed solutions involve cryptographic commitments, such as threshold encryption, where the contents of a transaction are hidden until it is already ordered.

This would prevent frontrunning because the sequencer does not know what the transaction is when they order it. This is an active area of research and development, aiming to make DeFi more accessible and less adversarial for the average user.

It is the holy grail of transaction sequencing, balancing performance with integrity.
