## Time Value Erosion

Time value erosion is the process by which an option loses its extrinsic value as the probability of the option ending in-the-money decreases with time. This is a fundamental concept in derivative pricing, representing the cost of holding an option over a specific duration.

The closer an option gets to expiration, the less time there is for the underlying asset to make a significant move in the trader's favor. This loss is not linear and is dictated by the Theta of the option.

For digital assets, which can experience extreme price swings in short periods, time value can be highly sensitive to sudden market events. Understanding this erosion is crucial for long option holders to ensure they are not overpaying for time.
