## Survivorship Bias

Survivorship bias is a common analytical error where only the assets or strategies that currently exist are included in a study, while those that have failed or were delisted are ignored. In cryptocurrency, this happens when analysts evaluate historical performance by looking only at coins currently listed on major exchanges, omitting the thousands of projects that went to zero.

This creates an artificially high impression of historical returns, as the failures are excluded from the dataset. In options trading, this might involve analyzing the performance of current active traders while ignoring the many who were liquidated and exited the market.

This bias leads to overly optimistic expectations and skewed risk assessments. It masks the true rate of failure in high-risk derivative environments.
