## Stop Loss Discipline

Stop loss discipline is the rigid adherence to pre-established price levels at which a losing trade is automatically liquidated to prevent further capital loss. In the fast-paced crypto and derivatives environment, this is the most critical tool for risk management.

It removes the emotional element from the exit decision, preventing the sunk cost fallacy and other behavioral biases from dictating the outcome. Effective stop loss usage requires calculating the appropriate distance based on asset volatility and position size.

If a stop loss is too tight, the trader may be shaken out by normal market noise; if it is too wide, the potential loss may exceed the trader's risk tolerance. The discipline lies in not moving the stop loss once the trade is open, unless it is to lock in profits.

This requires immense psychological fortitude, especially during periods of high volatility.
