Staking derivatives allow users to receive a liquid token in exchange for their staked assets, which can then be used in other decentralized finance applications, such as lending or as collateral for derivatives trading. This increases capital efficiency by allowing users to earn staking rewards while simultaneously participating in other financial markets.

However, these instruments introduce additional complexity and potential risks, such as the de-pegging of the derivative from the underlying asset. They represent an evolution in tokenomics, enabling a more interconnected and flexible financial ecosystem.

These derivatives effectively decouple the security-providing function of staking from the liquidity-providing function of capital.
