## Spread Capture

Spread capture is the process by which market makers profit from the difference between the bid and ask prices. By continuously providing both sides of the market, they collect the spread as compensation for the risk and service they provide.

In efficient markets, the spread is kept narrow by competition among market makers. However, in periods of high volatility or low liquidity, the spread can widen significantly, increasing the potential for profit but also the risk of adverse selection.
