Second-Order Sensitivity
Second-order sensitivity, often referred to as convexity or gamma in options trading, measures the rate of change of a first-order sensitivity, such as delta, with respect to changes in the underlying asset price. While delta tells you how much an option price changes for a one-unit move in the underlying, second-order sensitivity tells you how that delta itself changes as the underlying price moves.
This is crucial for risk management because it indicates how much a position's delta exposure will fluctuate, necessitating rebalancing. In the context of cryptocurrency derivatives, high second-order sensitivity implies that a portfolio's directional risk is highly unstable and requires frequent adjustments to maintain a neutral position.
