Retail Sentiment Exhaustion
Retail sentiment exhaustion occurs when the last group of individual investors has entered the market, leaving no new buyers to push prices higher. This is a critical indicator of a market top.
Throughout the bubble, retail interest grows until it reaches a fever pitch. Once everyone who is interested in the asset has already purchased it, the buying pressure dries up.
Without new demand, the market becomes vulnerable to even minor selling pressure. This exhaustion is often visible through metrics like increased social media mentions, new account creation rates, and the entry of non-professional investors into complex derivative instruments.
When sentiment is fully tapped out, the market loses its upward momentum and becomes susceptible to a sudden and significant correction.
